The Midnight Tapes
Cover art offers a unique opportunity to visually encapsulate the emotions of a record. I had the pleasure of adding another facet to my friend Manuel's solo EP by designing the artwork and creating a complementary augmented reality experience on Instagram.
Given the theme of navigating dark times, we chose to represent this darkness through the vastness of space, reflecting the EP's introspective look at difficult times through a cosmic lens.
From a technical point of view, it was crucial to create a scene beyond the flat image so it would also work as a digital portal in the form of an Instagram AR effect.
The foundation to bring this concept to life was an entirely digital 3D workflow. Every item on the cover was created as a 3D model that could then be used for the AR portal. In the end, the fans got to experience the cover in the third dimension while being able to listen to a sneak preview of the hidden track.
Overall, the project combined artistic vision from different angles with technical innovation, transforming a simple record cover into a dynamic and engaging visual experience.
